The 13 new Sabah state constituency seats are expected to be tabled in Parliament during the sitting commencing next week, said Deputy Sabah Speaker Datuk Johnny Mositun.
The Parti Bersatu Sabah secretary-general said that the new seats have gone through the necessary processes in the state including public hearings, finalised by the Election Commission in the state and sent to the authorities in Putrajaya.
“If everything goes smoothly, it is expected to be tabled this next Parliament sitting,” he said.
The first day of the next Parliament sitting is scheduled for March 6.
The 13 new seats that are proposed are Bengkoka, Mengaris, Pintasan, Pantai Dalit, Darau, Tanjung Dumpil, Limbahau, Tulid, Telupid, Sungai Manila, Lamag, Segama, and Kukusan.
These effectively add a state seat each to the federal constituencies of Kudat, Kota Marudu, Kota Belud, Tuaran, Sepanggar, Putatan, Papar, Pensiangan, Beluran, Libaran, Kinabatangan Silam and Kalabakan.
They will increase the number of state seats from 60 to 73.
Without major objections, the seats should be official and included in elections called from the second half of the year.
