She said this was because many work opportunities offered in the sector could benefit women.

“If previously the technical sector for jobs such as engineers, mechanics and public transport drivers was male-dominated now more women have taken up the challenge.

“The growing LPT sector is the best platform for women to build their career as a more skilled workforce is needed to develop the sector,” she emphasised.

Nancy said this during a ‘Meet and Greet Session’ organised by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) here today whiched gathered women who are involved in the LPT sector.

Meanwhile, Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) chief executive officer Noormah Mohd Noor said women’s work capacity in the LPT sector had received recognition from advanced countries when entrusted with technical tasks and driving public transport vehicles.

“For instance, in Japan, the public transport sector is dominated by women, with some as bus and train drivers.

“In ERL, 57 per cent of the workforce consists of women, with six as ERL drivers who manage 12 ERL trains travelling between KL and KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport), she said.
