Man arrested after seeking ransom for missing pastor

Raymond Koh was said to have been abducted by five masked men in three SUVs.Selangor police have arrested a 32-year-old Chinese man over the suspected kidnapping of Pastor Raymond Koh in Petaling Jaya last month.

State police chief Datuk Seri Abdul Samah Mat said the suspect was detained at 3.30am today based on information obtained from Koh’s family.

“The suspect contacted the victim’s family a day before the arrest and asked for a sum of money to release the pastor,” he said in a statement today.

Abdul Samah added that his agency has secured a court order to detain the man for an additional four days to aid police investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 365 of the Penal Code relating to kidnapping and abduction as well as Section 385 that covers extortion.

Koh, 62, was abducted on February 13. A video of what is believed to be his abduction has since spread online.

The video depicts a coordinated attack on Koh involving multiple abductors using several cars and motorcycles.

The video as well as the absence of a ransom demand prior to this have fuelled rumours over the motives for his abduction.
