Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) fully supports Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg’s call for politicians not to use their political advantage in their business and warning to all BN state assemblypersons to perform or risk being replaced.
Its women national vice president Voon Shiak Ni said it was a positive call by Abang Johari which was long overdue.
“But (then) again, it takes another effort to translate all these calls into action. To be fair, we do acknowledge that there are BN elected representatives who are hardworking and on the ground besides having their constituents speaking highly of them too.
“But there are those (BN elected representatives) who are too complacent with their position and their careless attitude is well known on the ground but we have seen them being fielded again and again in the election all these years,” she said yesterday.
Voon, who is PKR Stampin branch vice chairperson, added that those politicians who used their political advantages for licences and projects were not uncommon and it was a known scenario on the ground.
“We hope that Abang Johari is as bold as his warning to drop them (BN state assemblypersons) in the coming election and also to penalise those who benefitted from their positions as a BN elected representative and minister.”
She said the watchdog as to whether Abang Johari could effectively walks his talk would not only come from the opposition but also the constituents and people.
“Therefore, I wish to call on the Sarawak State Government to open up a website/portal for constituents to feed in their feedbacks on the performance of their elected representatives in their respective constituency.”
Voon believed that the results and feedbacks would be more genuine and accurate if the assessment was done by the grassroots or constituents.
In citing a scenario, she said failed projects which were reported in the Auditor-General’s Report each year could be avoided, if the local people/constituents were given a channel to provide their feedback on the projects implemented in their area and participate as a stakeholder.
