Seputeh MP Teresa Kok said MACC did not raid her office and only wanted some documents from her. — Picture by Yusof Mat IsaDAP MP Teresa Kok said today that Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had only wanted some documents from her and did not “raid” her office.

“They just wanted the documents, and we gave it to them. This is not a raid,” the Seputeh MP was quoted telling news portal Malaysiakini.

The news portal reported Kok’s aide Alice Lan as saying that two officers from MACC had visited the office with a search warrant this morning and sought for original documents on Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor’s (Yawas) Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE).

“The officers said this is based on the report by (Sungai Besar Umno division chief) Jamal (Md Yunos). So in order to be fair, they need to investigate us,” Lan was quoted saying.

In a statement posted on her official Facebook account, Kok described the MACC investigation resulting from Jamal’s complaint as a “dirty tactic” by the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition ahead of the 14th general election (GE14).

Kok explained that SMUE is a welfare scheme by the Selangor state government where bereavement contribution of RM2,500 is given to families in Selangor whose loved ones had died.

“My Seputeh service centre has been carrying out the disbursement of the bereavement of RM2,500 to the deceased’s families in my constituency since 2009,” she said in the statement this afternoon, calling Jamal’s accusations of her withdrawing RM2 million from the SMUE bank account as a “nonsensical joke.”

“The false accusation by Jamal Yunus is no doubt the dirty tactic to try to defame my fellow colleagues and I prior to the coming GE14,” the DAP vice-president said.

Kok said her lawyer Sankara Nair had two weeks ago issued a letter of demand to Jamal but have yet to receive a reply from him, adding that she will see Jamal in court.

Jamal had shot to the limelight after he organised several Malay-dominant rallies by his supporters dubbed the “Red Shirts” and opposed polls reform group Bersih 2.0’s peaceful rallies and events.z
