Zahid: Need to review education system to ensure national unity

Filed under: Politics — Hornbill Unleashed @ 8:01 AM

Ahmad-Zahid-Hamidi_pendidikan_600Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says the education system needs to be reviewed as not all schools follow the national education policy.

This made it difficult to promote national unity and cross-cultural understanding, he said after giving a lecture at the Intan Public Policy Ministerial Forum Series today.

When it came to pre-school institutions, Zahid said it was difficult to control them as there were multiple systems such as tadika perpaduan, tadika kemas and private kindergartens.

Likewise, there were some primary schools that followed the national education system and some that adhered to a vernacular system.

“That is part of the national education policy which promotes teaching using the mother tongue. But please, when it comes to the secondary level, use the same stream,” he said at a question-and-answer session.

He added that this was important in ensuring cross-cultural communication between students.

“In the end, there is no meeting point. Have people from Islamic religious schools met students from Chinese schools? No. When will there be any cross-cultural communication?

“There is no country in the world with three education systems. Only Malaysia has this. Our leaders are so nice,” he said.

“If the education system does not focus on national unity, it could result in a fractured society.”

  2. Fuk you Zahid Hamidi and Najib Razak. Malaysians in Sarawak and Sabah do not support highly corrupted leaders who use religion and race to shield themselves. You may be able to fool some Malay Muslims or bribed them but you cannot fool everyone especially Sarawakians.

    • The pirates and thieves from Umno Baru not only use religion and race to protect their own rice bowls and stay in power at all cost, they also use religion and race to create hatred for anyone including non Muslims and Opposition leaders who exposed blatant corruptions in the government and GLCs .

      • Of course lah. Majority of Umno Baru controlled ministers are Malay Muslims. When Opposition leaders especially from DAP exposed them for corruption, financial scandals and misappropriation, these thieves and pirates would turn the table on them by accusing them for being anti Islam and anti Malays. Malaysians of all races and faith are not stupid to believe that DAP leaders are anti Islam and anti Malays. On the contrary DAP leaders and lawmakers are more Malaysian and patriotic than Umno Baru thieves and pirates.
