Rafizi names ‘other recipients’ from PM’s bank accounts

rafiziRafizi Ramli today named three more recipients of money from the private bank account of Prime Minister Najib Razak, including a senior adviser to the PM and a foundation which organised a prayer programme in 2013.

Citing information from a blog called “SPRMInsider”, the PKR vice-president said Najib’s aide had received RM2 million.

He said a check with the Companies Commission of Malaysia revealed that the aide is also linked to an IT company in which he also has a 50% stake.

Rafizi said the company was also behind the “Najib Razak” mobile app launched last year.

Rafizi said the aide was also involved in the recent negotiation between International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) and 1MDB.

“If he did indeed receive money from 1MDB, then he is not in a position to be involved in negotiations of a settlement as there is a conflict of interest.”

Last month, IPIC and 1MDB announced that they had resolved their debt dispute with a conditional US$1.2 billion (RM5.18 billion) deal.

Under the terms of the agreement reported to the London Stock Exchange, 1MDB will pay the US$1.2 billion in two instalments in July and December to IPIC after proceedings before the London Court of International Arbitration.

Rafizi said Najib was the second recipient of the money, adding that a sum of RM449,586.95 was paid from a credit card under Najib’s Ambank Islamic bank account to the aide.

Another transaction from Najib’s credit card, said Rafizi, totalled RM2,833,147.21.

Both transactions totalled RM3.28 million and was spent on the same day at a luxury jewellery outlet in Italy, he said, adding that Najib should explain the transactions.

“This is a simple question. I don’t believe Najib bought jewellery for himself in Italy.”

The third recipient, according to Rafizi, was Yayasan Al-Abrar, which organised a prayer programme in December 2013.

He said the foundation received RM5 million from Najib’s personal account in Ambank.

Rafizi said he would in the coming days reveal more recipients, adding that the MACC should come up with answers.

“MACC must face the people,” he added.

This is the second such disclosure by Rafizi on the flow of 1MDB funds.

On April 13, he named former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa, as a recipient of funds he claimed were linked to 1MDB subsidiary SRC International.

In 2015, The Wall Street Journal cited documents from Malaysian investigators alleging some RM2.6 billion from entities linked to 1MDB had flowed into Najib’s private accounts.

Najib has denied the allegation, saying the money was a donation from the Saudi royal family to help Umno’s campaign in the 2013 general election.
