Around 40 members of the Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) group assembled at the Kuching Waterfront here yesterday to express their support to Batu Lintang assemblyman See Chee How’s Citizens Initiated Referendum (CIR) proposal to be moved in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

Just across the Sarawak River from the Kuching Waterfront members of the august House assembled for the opening ceremony of the 18th sitting.

According to S4S leader, Peter John Jaban, their members held the gathering since early morning but had to cut it short and immediately left from the place when the rain came.

“It was not a protest but a gathering to show support for YB Chee How in tabling the Sarawak citizens initiated referendum (CIR). When it started to rain, they (S4S members) all left to take shelter,” he said more in jest.

He said he was not at the gathering as he was outstation. However, he was updated by one of the coordinators about it. He thanked S4S members for taking the initiative to remind fellow Sarawakians about the urgent need for the CIR.

The eight-day DUN sitting began yesterday with the usual practices of the opening ceremony and the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s opening address.

Sarawak has 82 lawmakers.
