UiTM Law Faculty student Siti Nur Atikah Syed Ahmadi proposed a free education system that would open opportunity to all Malaysians to be educated and to prevent dropout.

“My aspiration is to have free education, especially in higher education by 2050, as implemented by other developed countries and for the government to provide suitable employment opportunities,” she said during a TN50 dialogue which was held with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Nancy Shukri and attended by 1,200 UiTM students here.

Siti Nur Atikah’s aspiration was one of several that were proposed by the students, apart from increasing Internet speed as achieved in developed countries, high living standards, public transportation and public safety.

“All these aspirations are collected and will be refined … whichever that viable we will implement them according to TN50 aspirations,” said Nancy to reporters after the dialogue session.

She added that thus far, more than 30,000 aspirations were collected through a series of dialogues held across the country involving various target groups.

  2. ECONOMISTS are worried about the future of Malaysia as more fresh graduates seek careers in the public sector because of job security and long term benefits.

They believe the attractive emoluments and other benefits given by the government will cost the nation 40% of the government’s revenue to maintain the public sector and it will affect future developments in the country, The Star reported.

According to the report, this year, some RM77.4 billion have been allocated in the 2017 Budget for public servants’ salaries and another RM21 billion for the pension and gratuity payments of retirees, which is about 45% of the allocated operating expenditure of the country.

Economist Yeah Kim Leng said the rising operating expenditure is a concern due to its impact on the country’s development.
