Malaysian universities expected to rise in QS World University Ranking

Universiti Malaya rose from 146th place to 133rd last year. — Picture by Yusof Mat Isa Malaysia’s public universities will record a rise in the QS World University Ranking which will be announced on June 8.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the ‘good news’ had come to his knowledge but it cannot be notified until an official announcement is made.

He also hinted that five research universities will rise in the ranking list when the decision is announced.

“On the determination and dedication shown by all university administrators, I believe that our universities that were ranked lower will continue to soar in their respective positions,”  he said when speaking at a Ramadan event with the ministry staff here today.

According to a study released by QS World University Ranking 2015/2016, University of Malaya rose from 146th in the previous year to 133rd last year, Universiti Putra Malaysia rose from 331 to 270, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia from 303 to 288 and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia from the 312 to 302.

Idris expressed his appreciation to all vice-chancellors, chairmen and board of directors of universities and the ministry staff for their role in promoting and improving the position of local universities against other universities in the world.

At the ceremony, Idris also presented Aidilfitri contributions to 143 less fortunate like single mothers and the underprivileged.
