He claimed Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz’s mockery of Sarawak Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah over a federal tourism tax has caused ill-will among Sarawak natives.

“I urge the police to investigate Nazri under Sedition Act for creating animosity and hatred between the people of Sarawak and the peninsula when he described Karim as behaving like gangster for objecting to the tourism tax,” he said, adding that he lodged a police report yesterday.

“At the moment, the emotions among Sarawakians are running high and the hatred is building up when we read what are being posted on social media,” he added.

He then urged other political parties and groups in the state to follow suit.

Ellie also asked the Home Ministry to intervene to preserve national unity.

He warned Nazri not to visit Sarawak in the near future, claiming the latter’s safety was not assured.

The federal minister previously mocked his Sarawak counterpart’s experience as a minister and warned the latter not to behave “like a gangster” over the matter. Nazri also rejected criticism against him over his remarks about Karim.

Nazri said yesterday that his spat with several state ministers from Sabah and Sarawak over the tourism tax has ended.
