She thanked Khalid for inviting her to assist local investigations into claims made on her website, but noted that the IGP has the power to obtain the same documents she used in her reports.

“So, since the IGP is the man who can provide safe passage and is now openly refusing to do so, we fear that we are going to have to decline his doubtless well-intentioned and gracious offer,” Rewcastle-Brown said in a statement.

She also claimed that Khalid’s admitted ties to a man Sarawak Report accused of collecting “protection” money was sufficient evidence that its other reports were accurate.

Khalid earlier urged the Sarawak Report editor to assist local investigations into her allegations, but refused to promise her immunity.

The Inspector-General of Police insisted, however, that Rewcastle-Brown should make an effort to provide evidence here to support the accusations against various lawmakers on her website.

Last week, The Malaysian Insight news portal reported that Khalid invited Rewcastle-Brown to aid investigations into a Sarawak Report article claiming that millions of ringgit were channelled to a prominent lawyer linked to Umno.
