IGP: AG told us to dig deeper into 1MDB

Filed under: Politics — Hornbill Unleashed @ 8:01 AM

The Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) has directed the police to investigate the 1MDB issue further, said inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar.

“I think I’ve said this before. I said the attorney-general had told us to investigate further on a few questions that have arisen, so we are still investigating,” he told reporters at his Hari Raya open house function at the police headquarters in Bukit Aman today.

He was asked whether there had been any instructions from the AGC regarding the investigation papers that the police had submitted.

The police had formed an investigation team in April 2016 to scrutinise the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on 1MDB, a day after the PAC tabled the report.

In April this year, Khalid told reporters that the investigation had been completed “some time ago”.

On June 17, Khalid said he has yet to receive a response from the AGC regarding the investigation papers that the police had submitted.

The AGC and the police have been under increased pressure to wrap up investigations since the US Department of Justice’s latest series of 1MDB-related civil forfeiture suits that were filed on June 15.

Various opposition parties and civil society groups have criticised Malaysian authorities for supposed inaction as their counterparts in Singapore, Switzerland, US, and other countries crack down on those implicated in the 1MDB scandal.

Attorney-general Apandi Ali had said that multiple investigations had found that no crime had been committed.

1MDB maintained no money had been misappropriated from the fund, on contrary to the DOJ’s claims.

Previously in April last year, Apandi had told the police to conduct further investigations on 1MDB.

This was before Khalid announced in August that year that the first phase of the investigation had been completed.

  1. The stupid scumbag and highly corrupted AG had called the DOJ civil suits politically motivated but Malaysians from all corners knew the forced retirement of former AG, MACC chief and BNM governor were politically motivated and direct interference by Najib who was one of the main culprits behind the 1MDB financial scandals and emblazement. Najib retained the IGP because he needed a corrupted Police Chief to keep him safe and the current AG had sold his soul to cover up the biggest scandal of the century.
