S4S: Wear red to celebrate Sarawak Day

Filed under: Politics — Hornbill Unleashed @ 8:02 AM

Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) has called on Sarawakians, particularly those living in Kuching, to wear red tomorrow (July 22) in conjunction with Sarawak Day.

Its spokesperson Peter John Jaban said this would be a show of solidarity among Sarawakians “Sarawakians must stand together to show that we support the state government’s effort in fighting for Sarawak’s rights.

“Come July 22 (tomorrow), let’s all wear red going to coffeeshops, shopping or even going to the garden,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

He also said S4S and Sarawak Dayak Iban Association (Sadia) would also be holding a peaceful gathering at the Museum Gardens from 8.30am onwards.

The organising chairman, Bill Jugah, thus urged the public to join in the activity, adding the police had been informed of the gathering and were supporting it.

“Bring along your families and friends in your red attire, and let us all have a fun time at the Museum Gardens in conjunction with Sarawak Day.”

  1. Human rights activists and S4S spokesman Peter John Jaban said the autonomy movement brews from a decades-long dissatisfaction that the federal government has dealt unfairly with Sarawakians in all matters.

“Sarawakians are feeling more victimised,” he said.

Lee of S4S said the autonomy movement prioritises above all else the restoration of the Malaysia Agreement 1963, in whiche Sarawak is recognised as one of the four “powers.”

Other autonomy demands are the recognition that Sarawak does not have a official religion, a higher quota of government jobs for Sarawakians, the right to use English in government and as a teaching language, a bigger share of tax revenues and ultimately, a higher percentage of oil royalties, Lee said.

    • The rural voters had chosen Umno Baru controlled BN Sarawak to administer Sarawak but the leaders from Sarawak BN stole from the rakyat and now S4S wants to support the thieves in Sarawak BN to negotiate for more autonomy? S4S should demand MACC to probe Taib Mahmud instead of trying to fool the rural folks that they focused on fighting for Sarawak ‘s right.

  2. S4S leaders received financial aid from pro BN tycoons. But none of them dares to contest under STAR or PBDS or as independent. Sarawakians are not stupid to be misled by Peter John and Lina Soo.

  3. S4S will never succeed in its mission so long as Sarawakian continue to vote BN as federal government. But S4S thinks it could support local parties without realising that the leaders of the local parties are actually being controlled by BN via dedak feed tube.
