SUPP exists for Sarawakians — Dr Sim

Filed under: Politics — Hornbill Unleashed @ 8:02 AM

The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) exists for the people of Sarawak and would continue fighting for their welfare and interests.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also SUPP president, said the party which was set up 58 years ago, still exists because of the support given by the people.

“Join SUPP for Sarawak and the future of Sarawak, not for personal gain. Don’t wait until opposition is weak. Take initiatives to work for the party and the people now. Contribute as (much as) you can, according to your abilities.

“SUPP members should stay strong – continue fighting for the party and also strive towards a stronger Sarawak,” he spoke at SUPP Pending’s 33rd anniversary dinner here on Monday.

On the opposition, Dr Sim who is also SUPP Pending chairman, viewed their leaders as ‘actors’ – those who talk a lot, deceive people and attack SUPP but do not perform as the people’s representatives.

Adding on, he highlighted SUPP as a party for all, as shown by its membership – 33 per cent of members are Bumiputeras.

“The party does not focus on the city only – we also served in the villages in the past, are serving them now and will continue in the future.”

On SUPP Pending, he said the branch has contributed significantly to the development in Pending – unlike the opposition, of which the leaders only talked a lot, but did nothing much.

“Why is Pending facing so many problems? All constituencies face problems; this will never end. “The Pending YB (elected representative) went to Batu Kawah, pointing out the problems there and re-opening DAP Batu Kawah service centre. This is because in the past, the opposition YBs did not look after their own constituencies. That’s why Batu Kawah is also facing many problems,” he said.

Back on SUPP, Dr Sim said this year the party has set up three new branches and as such, he hoped that more branches would be opened to reach out to more people and serve both the city and rural folk better than before.

“The (SUPP) Pending branch is doing well, as young and old members are working together. “The senior members who contributed so much in the past, are now giving guidance and advice to the young ones. I hope that SUPP Pending would nurture more future leaders.”

  2. If indeed SUPP truly exist for Sarawakians Dr Sim should lead his party to quit BN led and controlled by Najib and the elites in UMNO Baru. For 53 years UMNO Baru had an unwritten agreement with Muslim leaders of PBB to merge Sarawak ‘s rights with UMNO Baru national agenda in exchange for full control over timber, land and land resources . The Dayak leaders in PBB had betrayed the Dayak community and since the reign of former Thief Minister, Taib Mahmud, the Dayaks found themselves marginalised, polarized and their native customary rights slowly and eventually extinguished. Some greedy and self serving Dayak leaders from former SNAP and PBDS also lowered the position and role of the Dayaks in politics and governance . SUPP had refused to work with SNAP to safeguard the interest of Sarawakians especially the Dayaks. The self serving leaders of SUPP had benefitted and enriched themselves through Abdul Rahman Yacub and Taib Mahmud. SUPP has also failed to condemn UMNO Baru controlled Putrajaya for infringing into Sarawak ‘s rights on Petroleum exploration , Religion and Education.

  3. SUPP exists because its a tool for UMNO/BN nothing else. SUPP today is totally different from the time when it was led by Ong Kee Hui , Stephen Yong , Wong Sung Kai etc. So far SUPP been silence on the 1MDB , Submarine , etc scandals . SUPP must realise that Voters today are not ignorant and so tend to look at the bigger scenario . Whatever happenings in Malaya will affect Sarawak too. So pointing figures at opposition YBs and shaming them for the problems facing in their respective constituencies is shallow politic. Remember we are all Tax Payers. So the Government of the day must be responsible for the whole Country/State. If you can’t do this as appointed Ministers , then sorry .
