PKR calls for Rohani to be replaced

PKR has called for Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim to be replaced.

According to its women national vice president Voon Shiak Ni, Rohani is unfit to be a minister-in-charge of women affairs, after the minister said that the 12-year-old girl who married the man convicted of raping her in Sabah is doing well.

“Rohani may say that we misunderstood her in some way but her reply to a question from an MP that ‘the girl is doing well’ is sending a wrong message to the society.

“Our question is how many times of blunder can we allow her to go on as a women minister. If she cannot be firm, bold and brave then we think that she should be replaced,” a disappointed Voon told a press conference here today.

Rohani’s ministry on Tuesday issue a statement clarifying that offering to marry rape victims will not prevent convicted rapists from serving their sentences.

Voon also questioned why the federal government reappointed her as a Women, Family and Community Development Minister in the 2015 Cabinet reshuffle.

“We don’t know why the federal government reappointed her when the most sensational issue of Penan rape cases were not addressed during her first term after she promised to do so as soon as possible in 2013,” she said.

  1. When a Muslim is indoctrinated to the extend that she or he felt that a crime like raping a child could be solved with the rapist marrying the child victim she or he has lost all sense of moral and justice. In the case of a Muslim minister like Rohani, she is no longer fit to be a minister and a great shame to all women and mothers.
