“If [Sarawak State Secretary Tan Sri] Morshidi [Ghani] could sign for Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi Taib and her two children’s applications to be identified with the Melanau community, I don’t see why he cannot do the same for foreign spouses of Sarawakians applying for the PR status,” Chong Chieng Jen told reporters at a press conference here.

“There are hundreds or thousands of applications for PR status sitting on the desk of the State Secretary waiting to be approved for years,” he said.

Chong added that the procedure required that applications for PR status in Sarawak be first verified by the State Secretary’s Office before being approved by the state Immigration Department.

Chong, who is also Sarawak DAP chairman and Kota Sentosa state lawmaker, confirmed postings on social media that Syria-born Ragad and her two children have been identified with the Melanau community, taking after the race of her husband.

He said he made a search at the Kuching High Court’s library for the Sarawak government gazette yesterday and found that they have changed their racial identification.

“What is being circulated in WhatsApp is true that she and her two children, Nizar Mahmoud Madi and Sam Mahmoud Madi, have been identified as Melanaus,” he said.

Chong, who is also Bandar Kuching federal lawmaker, said as Melanaus, they will enjoy privileges accorded to the natives of Sarawak.

Ragad married Taib, then chief minister, on December 18, 2010.

Morshidi signed Ragad and her two children’s applications on November 9 for identification with the Melanau community under section 20 of the Native Courts Ordinance 1992 and Rule 17F of and the Native Courts Rules 1993.

  1. No foreigners who have been granted citizenship would be eligible to be Malay or Native of Sarawak. Their application to be PR or citizen must not be given priority over Sarawak born Malaysians who have yet to be given birth certificates.

  2. Sarawak BN is controlled and owned by the most corrupted former CM who was fondly known as Thief Minister during his 23 years at the helm. All this children are billionaires and his current wife and step children are already multi millionaires. Sarawakians must wake up now and vote out all Sarawak BN candidates in GE14 and ensure Najib and all the crooks associated with him including Taib Mahmud are investigated for gross corruptions and power abuse.
