‘NCR land matter may be made an issue during campaigning’

Filed under: Politics — Hornbill Unleashed @ 8:02 AM

Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) secretary-general Datuk Joseph Salang says issues over Native Customary Rights (NCR) land may again be exploited to the fullest during the campaigning for this 14th general election (GE14).

He, however, believes that the rural folk would not be so gullible as to accept the many unfound accusations against the BN-led government.

“This is because the amendments made to the State Land Code will be tabled in the State Legislative Assembly sitting in July.

“The amendments will have clear definition and scope of the ‘Pulau Galau’ (community reserves) and the ‘Pemakai Menoa’ (territorial domain) related to NCR,” he spoke at a ‘meet-the-people’ gathering in Rumah Ubat Egho, Nanga Serau yesterday.

“I sit on the special state steering committee dealing with these amendments together with other Dayak leaders and professionals. We are just as concerned about the rights of our community,” assured Salang, adding that with the amendments, the Pemakai Menoa and Pulau Galau concepts would be given official recognition.

He said he understood that the community was not asking for more land, but for the government to recognise what actually belonged to them as handed down from their forefathers.

On politics, he said there was no way for any independent candidate to be accepted into BN, even if he or she won.

“The acceptance must have the tacit consent or support from all component parties.”

Salang said Larry Sng Wei Shien, who had expressed his intention to contest against him in Julau, probably thought that he would be admitted into a BN party should he win in the election.

Salang also reminded Julau voters that they would miss out on the government’s dynamic development programme for them if they voted wrongly.

“The Julau and Pakan areas in Sarikei Division, for instance, are parts of a very big regional agriculture project known as the ‘Sadok Agropolitan’. This is the plan to turn Sarikei and Betong divisions into the state’s main food producing areas,” he added.

  1. The Dayaks have had enough of BN Sarawak lies and endless lies. The Dayaks not only lost their rights over their ancestral lands, they were neglected and forgotten. All the past and present Sarawak BN Dayak leaders are millionaires and given thousand acres of plantation land and rural projects while the majority of the Dayaks had to depend on welfare aid and Brim. 54 years of empty promises and bullshit from Dayak leaders from Sarawak BN. Time to vote out all Umno Baru controlled BN Sarawak and vote Pakantan Harapan.
