Army begins mopping-up operation

According to residents living close by, they heard the sound of jets just before the explosions.

Malaysian forces are reportedly conducting a mopping-up operation after they launched a dawn assault on the armed group of Filipinos who killed eight policemen over the weekend.

The assault at Kampung Tanduo was preceded by the sound of bombs exploding and the sound of jets roaring overhead. (more…)

Sabah senator ditches BN, backs Pakatan


In a bid to blunt Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s damage control measures in Sabah yesterday, Senator Maijol Mahap today officially announced his resignation from all BN and Upko posts to align himself with Pakatan Rakyat.
Maijol, who made the announcement at his Kampung Kokobuan residence in Goshen, Kota Marudu this afternoon, said Kota Marudu Upko division leaders would similarly follow in his foot steps.

In his exit speech, Maijol said had no confidence in Najib’s “last minute” announcement  yesterday of a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to investigate allegations that immigrants were granted citizenship for votes after waiting years for a resolution. (more…)

Sabah BN Senator quits BN, goes pro-Pakatan

Pakatan Rakyat (PR) welcomed today another senior Barisan Nasional (BN) leader into the Sabah opposition front – Senator Datuk Maijol Mahap – in yet another sign of a brewing revolt against the ruling pact in its east Malaysian fortress.

Mahap, a vice-president in BN’s Sabah-based United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (UPKO), formally confirmed his decision to leave the ruling pact at a function held at his house in Kampung Kokobuan, Kota Marudu, some 100km from Kota Kinabalu this afternoon.

The function was attended by top national and state opposition leaders, including PR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PKR secretary-general Datuk Saifuddin Nasution, PKR vice-president Chua Tian Chang, DAP’s Kota Kinabalu MP Hiew King Cheu, Sabah DAP chairman Jimmy Wong and Amanah deputy Tan Sri Abdul Kadir Syeikh Fadzir.
