  8. KUCHING – Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud withdrew his libel suit against two Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) leaders in the High Court here, today after they apologised for causing him substantial damage, loss and embarrassment.

Justice Datuk David Wong Dak Wah granted an application by Taib to withdraw the case against Sarawak PKR deputy chairman (Communication) Wan Zainal Abidin Wan Senusi and its vice-president See Chee How, who is also Batu Lintang assemblyman, after hearing submissions from both the plaintiff and defendants.

The suit was withdrawn without costs.

It pertained to leaflets published on April 11, 2007 by the duo of newspaper articles stating that Taib controlled the lumber trade of Sarawak and had abused his position to corruptly obtain or receive payment of RM32 million in return for allowing shipping companies’ trade to proceed smoothly.

They had published and distributed the leaflets and articles to the public, including shoppers, pedestrians and passing motorists at the Electra House shopping complex here, a nearby open-air market and residential neighbourhoods.

In their apology, Wan Zainal Abidin and See acknowledged the articles and statements made by them were entirely erroneous and without basis.

The articles published in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin, together with Taib’s photograph prominently featured, also were deemed to represent a grave libel on him as an individual, politician and chief minister of Sarawak, besides causing him substantial damage, loss and embarrassment. — Bernama

  9. Isn’t it not a way to put it, that, beversince Sarawak joined Malaysia there are/were no elected representatives who really have/had the strong convictions to defend and protect our homeland as guaranteed under the constitutional rights. No political parties truly rise to live up to the expectations for their members and Sarawakians as a whole. Instead political parties deviate more towards the interests of building more business consortiums whereby elected representatives are enjoined to corrupt and cautioned. Have we not enough dirty tactics of the old ruling BN polticians? 50 years plus already still not enough? Change.

  10. WHY NOT PLEDGE INDEPENDENCE FOR SARAWAK?

THIS WILL SOLVE MANY ISSUES CONNECTED AND ARISING FROM UMNO COLONIZATION OF SARAWAK & SABAH!

  11. En route to full Regional Autonomy for Sarawak, even some space for Foreign Relations. Realise by 2013 ?
A Royal Constitutional Reform Commission for Sabah and Sarawak is needed.
Pakatan should now communicate with UBF, through channels already established first by SNAP.

    • ONCE WE WERE AN INDEPENDENCE SARAWAK!

      FULL INDEPENDENCE NOT AUTONOMY!

Autonomy and RCI talk is just nonsense as it serves to perpetuate Malayan colonization.

Why on earth are our intellectuals so slavish and pathetic minded and not see that “independence in Malaysia” is an illusion!

All that happened in 1963 was the British handing over colonial power to Malaya to continue ruling us a colony!
      http://wikisabah.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/brunei-smartest-singapore-smarter.html

We are treated as what we are -just a colony. The features of a colony are pointed out by Daniel J Jambun in his article on this link: http://wikisabah.blogspot.com/2012/02/some-lies-for-bn-to-answer.html

Do we have to pull out the facts of 48 years to prove the obvious?

In Sabah they are saying that Sabah can develop itself without Malaya. They want to keluar Malaysia!
      http://wikisabah.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/sabah-boleh-maju-tanpa-bn.html
      http://wikisabah.blogspot.com.au/2012/02/dear-voters-of-sabah-and-sarawak.html

Sahahans have one thing very different from Sarawak. They have the United Borneo Alliance of local political parties not beholden to Malayan parties. They stand up and speak for Sabah loudly against what they are calling Malayan colonialism.
      http://wikisabah.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/tripartite-united-borneo-alliance.html

They even have a website petition which says “Sabah Sarawak Keluar Malaysia”. Isn’t that clear enough?
      http://despiritofsabahan.blogspot.com.au/

Did we all sleep through all 48 years and learned nothing? If so our minds must be so colonised now that we have no Sarawak national pride left.

Have we forgotten that Sarawak was an independent State recognized by Brunei in 1842, by USA in 1850, Britain in 1863?

We were once an independent State.

In Sarawak we are all controlled by Malayan parties.

Can’t you all see this mistake in further surrendering our remaining political freedom?

How did we end up in this awful predicament?

Sarawak is rich in resources. We can stand alone and become well developed country.

We don’t need Malaya to survive.

Malaya needs our resources and votes more than we need Malaya!

      We can be independent again!

WHY WASTE TIME STAYING AS A MALAYAN COLONY?

  13. Good job, for a start.

PR must now come out with its plans. To show its seriousness in reforming Sarawak, criticism of Taib is not enough as most Sarawakians know how rotten the BN state government is. Others will want to be convinced by the PR’s plans for the state.

  14. Recalling what Meramat Tajuk cautioned [ in comment 15766 item 3 ] politicians should have more circumspect about actually how they deliver the message. Innocently raising vague hopes can can lead to unreasonable escalated social expectations. In relation to Sarawak’s mineral resources, Chiew Chiu Sing (DAP) procliams in the video clip as follows:

“…to enjoy fully the fruits of our natrual reasources…” Chiew Chiu Sing – [ 2:4 1 min]

    .

The danger is not in what is said, but what’s not qualified. It would be more useful to qualify in general terms about human capital development and how adequately educated citizens with the right skills and talent can benefit personally and other citizens generally, in addition to imparting healthy values for a vibrant community.

If we want to drown the BN, we’ll have to try outdo them in all ways, not as dumb “development for politicians” hawked by Taib!

    • Wayang Street,

You must be saying the right thing since you now have one thumbs up and one thumbs down 🙂

The truth taxis tend to run smack in the middle, don’t they ?

Short of a perfect, sudden revolution like Tunisia and Egypt – and iterative Change and Reforms, will not bear fruits in perhaps 10 or 15 years.

5 years for legislative reforms package, another 5 years for socio-economic change to dovetail behind the legislative, and another 5 for the socio-cultural – to dovetail behind the socio-economic.

Pledges tend to be not time-bound, nor qualified with harsh realities of resistance to Change/reforms by momentum.

But a truthful pledge won’t be sexy enough to pull in the votes, right ?

Cool, calculative heads – aren’t good for politicians, either. Too bad.

  15. The thief minister never has any love for Sarawak and its people since the day he bacame the CM. The most important thing he cares about in his life is the “debolop-ment” of his own bank accounts, and he has cultivated a fine art out of stealing taxpayers’ money, stealing NCR lands, causing the devastation of natural resources, poluting rivers, the disruption of natives’ livelihood, and whatever imagineable evil and wicked things you can think of and has no remorse. After he has done all these things, he still craves for more.

He said he never broke a promise in his life. You bet he did. He said he was always fair to all races. Let’s see the day will come when people will reckon with him if he still thinks he is fair to all races.
