Flood victims across Sarawak are pleading for help, claiming their BN reps aren’t around.

Deputy Chief Minister Alfred Jabu Anak Numpang has come under fire for his “below par performance” in handling the recent floods which occurred in several areas in the state.

According to Sarawak PKR vice-chairman See Chee How, Jabu, who heads the state disaster and reflied management committee, “keep disappearing” everytime there are floods in the state.

“I am very disappointed with him. He keeps on disappearing whenever Sarawak is hit with floods. So far he has given two press conferences regarding the floods and relief assistance.”

“I must say that his performance as the state disaster and relief management committee chairman is really below par,” said See, who is also Batu Lintang state assemblyman.

He said he had received many complaints from flood victims of their inability to seek assistance from the state government and the state flood operations room.

He added that the operations room should inform the public of its contact numbers when there are floods occurring in their areas.

“I feel that the disaster and relief management committee is led by a wrong person,” he said, adding that he himself was in the dark as to what is happening with flood victims outside of Kuching.

Jabu, he said, was not giving out any status updates or information about the flood victims.

See drew a comparison between former deputy chief minister Dr George Chan and Jabu, saying Chan had always been on the ground giving reporters the latest updates on the flood situation.

Prior to his loss in the Piasau constituency in the April state election last year, Chan oversaw the state’s disaster and relief programme.

See urged Jabu to buck up, and be more responsible towards the flood victims.

No help from BN leaders

See, who visited Siburan last night, said he had been receiving calls that some parts of the area were under one metre of water, after a downpour over the last 24 hours.

“They (residents) have been calling their Barisan Nasional’s elected representative to attend to their problems, but nobody came, so they called us,” he said.

Taman Durandah Emas in Siburan, which is under the Bengoh state constituency, was the worst affected area.

Kuching and Samaharan divisions suffered their worst floods in the first weeks of the New Year when several schools were closed and roads were impassable to traffic.

More than 4,000 people were evacuated from their homes while their paddy farms and vegetable gardens were damaged causing the prices of green vegetables to soar, especially in the Kuching markets.

Thousands of people who spent their Christmas and New Year holidays in longhouses and villages were unable to return to Kuching as several parts of the Kuching-Miri trunk road were flooded.

Four persons were killed in the floods including two at Batu Lintang area, where an upper six student Kho Ying Oi, 19, slipped into a monsoon drain.

A Shell station worker Herman Sihas, 29, who saw her struggling in the raging water, jumped into the drain to save her. Unfortunately both drowned.

In Lundu, two Indonesian workers, Herman Ariwi Bowo, 22, and Franstya Eka Putra, 21, both from Gembuk, drowned when they slipped while crossing a river on Jan 6.

  1. In 2001, Jabu said Dayak income up in 10 years!

But 10 years later 2011, Jabu said Dayak poorest hardcore rural poor!

Incomes go up within 10 years
by Jack Wong, The Star, Friday, 18 May 2001

KUCHING: THE state’s rural and urban poverty rate dropped to 14.5% and 2.1% in 1999 from 24.7% and 4.9% respectively in 1990.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu said efforts to address rural and urban poverty had produced significant results.

He said the government had carried out various poverty eradication programmes, such as an integrated agricultural development scheme, rural growth centres and the village integrated development project to create jobs and economic activities for the people.

“Efforts to eradicate poverty is not just about raising the income of the people as it also involves provision of social infrastructure, like school, medical, housing and recreational facilities,” he told Richard Wong Ho Leng (DAP Bukit Assek) during question time.

Jabu, also Land and Rural Development Minister, said the state’s per capita Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for last year was estimated at RM6,235 in constant price and RM15,628 in current price.

He said the figures showed an average growth rate of 4.7% and 7.7% respectively over a 10-year period.

“As the state economy is expanding, the income level of the people has also increased.”

Assistant Minister for Food Industries Datuk David Teng Lung Chi told Mong Dagang (BN Bukit Begunan) that the government was helping pepper planters during the current downturn in pepper prices.

These included providing more support for farm maintenance and exploiting marketing options such as delving into the physical forward market and adopting storage certification schemes to enable them to maximise earnings through selling the crop at the most suitable time.

Teng said the planters were also encouraged to use cheaper fertilisers instead of imported ones.

Jabu: 27,902 Household Heads Under Hardcore Poor Category
    Bernama News, 23 June 2011

KUCHING — A total of 27,902 household heads (KIR) or 49.8 percent of 55,975 registered in e-Kasih system fall under the hardcore poor category, the State Assembly heard today.

Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu said of the 55,975 registered until June 11, 23,235 were categorised as simple poor and 4,838 had exited poverty.

“Of 27,902 KIR under hardcore poor, 13,349 are Ibans (47.84%!), 5,601 Malays 2,925 Orang Ulu, 2,757 Bidayuh and 1,974 Melanaus (bumiputeras), 647 Chinese and 622 others,” he said when replying to Violet Yong (DAP-Pending).

KIR with income of RM520 monthly fall under the hardcore poor category while those earning RM830 monthly are categorised as simple poor.

Jabu said to ensure effectiveness of e-Kasih, district poverty eradication focus group committees will vet applications to ensure that only those qualified were registered.

The data will be updated with entry from all aid agencies and those not registered with e-Kasih so that data on the low income group is comprehensive.

“The system is under construction and implementation is expected to be completed in 2012,” he said.

Jabu told Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi (BN-Pantai Damai) that 18,876 people were beneficiary of the Housing Assistance Program (PBR) including 10,847 new houses and 8,029 repaired houses.

A total of 1,877 KIR received assistance from the Rural and Regional Development Ministry.

Some 3,426 projects under the 1Azam Programme of the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry had also been implemented until May. — BERNAMA

  2. JABU IS AN ACCOMPLISHED MAGICIAN FROM THE TAIB SCHOOL OF MAGICIAN

Why? Jabu like Taib can make things like Sarawak wealth disappear. Jabu has himself learned the “disappearing trick” and automatically disappears when something negative to him pops up ….

  6. Is this the 1st time our state experiences the hopelessness that when in need of emergency reliefs statesmen seemed to be keeping othemselves warm and whistling in hideaway cosy resorts. When the sign of disaster began to improve they would return with street-selling sweet words, come, come here, free ice cream here for you. Is this what we often heard and read on the niche of BN selling tactic that only BN can get problems fixed. China population is billions and her President went to the ground himself to survey when the disasters occurred. Hopefully this fine example would not trigger any instant jump shot among the local politicians. Is this what Sarawakians wish to have them continuely treated in such hardcore manner. Then, vote a change.

    Malaya 20 years ago:

    1. The last time I was in Kuala Trengganu, about 20 years ago, the place smelled fish with wooden jetties where I threw fishing lines from. Today the town is a modern metropolitan, and all jetties have been replaced with modern concrete wharfs and huge cranes everywhere. The oil-money has been very helpful to the Trengganu people.

    2. The last time I was in Dengkil, about 20 years ago, the area was filled old tin mines and we used to chase haruan all over the place. Today, the place is a modern Cyber-Jaya, Putra Jaya, built from Petronas money, costing RM4.5 billion. Just where did Petronas pumped its oil from?

The last time I was in Kapit – about 20 years ago – there has not been much change there ow. In fact the only airport has closed, full of lalang. The only rural road is built by the Chinese (Mr Kong) to access to his farm.

And yes, the rental is so expensive that traders have to sell goods 5 times the prices in Sibu. You know why? I don’t see many shop houses coming up over the past 20 years. I met an engineer –apa nama – who comes from Kapit and yet make his living in Kuching. There is nothing but failures and exploitations in Kapit. Still vote BN?

Don’t blame YBs or Menteri – it is you Kapit People that should be blamed. Why did you elect BN over the past 48 years? Shame on Kapit People.

  8. The YBs of the government definitely put the blame on the rakyat on why they call the opposition YBs for help. The answer is simple. When the Head of the Disaster Committee is in disaster, the rakyat will look upon the opposition for alternative. Hey this life and death situation needed very urgent interference for the concerned parties. Though, maybe I am a staunch supporter of development policies by the government BUT I do not support unhealhty practices, unattended problems of the rakyat and damned excuses given. The swing of allegiance will definitely occurs.

To tell you the truth my Buduk friend, Dayak will not be able to build the rumah. If you want to know the answer – ask the Dayak leaders in the State.

  9. STORY OF THE BUZZARD, BAT & BUMBLE BEE

HOW TO GET OUT OF OUR PREDICAMENT- THE “MALAYSIA BOTTLE” SYNDROME?

    “THE BUZZARD:

If you put a buzzard in a pen that is 6 feet by 8 feet and is entirely open at the top, the bird, in spite of its ability to fly, will
be an absolute prisoner. The reason is that a buzzard always begins a flight from the ground with a Run of 10 to 12 feet. Without space to run, as is its habit, It will not even attempt to fly, but will remain a prisoner for life in a small jail with no top.

    THE BAT:

The ordinary bat that flies around at night, a remarkable nimble creature in the air, cannot take off from a level place. If it is placed on the floor or flat ground, all it can do is shuffle about helplessly and, no doubt, painfully, until it reaches some slight elevation from which it can throw itself into the air. Then, at once, it takes off like a flash.

    THE BUMBLEBEE:

A bumblebee, if dropped into an open tumbler, will be there until it dies, unless it is taken out. It never sees the means of escape at the top, but persists in trying to find some way out through the sides near the bottom.. It will seek a way where none exists, until it completely destroys itself..

    PEOPLE:

In many ways, we are like the buzzard, the bat, and the bumblebee. We struggle about with all our problems and frustrations, never realizing that all we have to do is look up! That’s the Answer, the escape route and the solution to any problem! Just look up.

Sorrow looks back, Worry looks around, But faith looks up!”

    (story provided by a correspondent)
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________

Brothers & sisters for 48 years we have been fruitlessly chasing or waiting for the fulfillment of promises of “progress and development” made by the old and new colonial masters to entice us into “Malaysia”.

Instead we hear endless complains of suffering as in the “disappearing Jabu” article. Many of the complains arise from as a consequence of being controlled and raped and robbed of everything by a gang of robbers in what is really re-colonization in “Malaysia”.

We are like the above buzzard, bat and bumblebee rolled in. They all can get out if they knew what to do!

Many of us are mentally imprisoned in a metaphorical bottle called “Malaysia” and cannot see our way out. This is our “in the Malaysia bottle” syndrome or dilemma!

In fact the solution itself is simple but the doing of it is very hard.

We are bound to Malaya by pieces of paper called the “Malaysia Agreement” and the “Constitution” and the Malayan Army occupies our country. In other words if they did not have their army on Sarawak territory we can just say “goodbye” to them.

It is because they have a huge army in our country which is the difficult part. In the 1960s the Malayan army was used as a backup to the British army which suppressed the Brunei Uprising and later fought the guerrilla freedom fighter in Sarawak The British army stayed on till 1966 (but continued to provide backup to the Malayan army) after they had forced Sabah and Sarawak into Malaysia (1963) and pacified and secured the country for UMNO. It was then that the Malayan army assumed the role as the new occupation army.

The solutions are well tried around the world. The latest success story was South Sudan which militarily fought the Sudanese colonization for some 50 years and then they won the referendum for independence. Similarly East Timor fought for its independence and won the independence referendum.

To shortcut the fighting and avoid bloodshed we can demand for an independence referendum .

But even this we will not get from Malaya. This is reflected in Pakatan’s Buku Jingga. They declare they want to “integrate” us – not to let us “separate” from them. So even Pakatan will use force i.e. the Malayan Army to make sure we cannot “get out” if we tried.

Forget about the 18 points since they might as well never have existed and don’t waste time attempting to get “autonomy”.

You may get autonomy on paper but the Malayan colonial rulers will happily continue their cheating and plundering ways as usual. Pakatan is willing to return 20% oil royalty – why not 100% since it belongs to us and compensate us for the 48 years they stole our oil? UMNO will not even talk about increasing the royalty!

The real solution is for us just tear up the Malaysia Agreement to get Sarawak out of Malaysia like Singapore.

Brunei did not even bother to “join” and they made the right decision. They rule themselves and do we hear them complaining?

The Sabah people are now working for “self-rule” more actively than our opposition party politicians- those in Malayan DAP PAS and PKR parties.

Sabahans are relying on their own effort to change their situation…. It would be predictable that they will get no more than a small consolation even if they did succeed in getting “autonomy”. In the end they will get cheated again and they will rise up for real independence….

In Sarawak the oppressed people mainly Dayaks are our hope for change. There is hope if they wake up to the “Malaysia bottle syndrome” and smash their way out by smashing the idea of Malaysia forever. How strongly can you put this feeling?

So Sarawakians don’t let ourselves be imprisoned by an idea (“Malaysia” ) which is proven to be clearly 100% against our interest and well being.

  10. Jabu challenged Lim Guan Eng to built longhouses in Penang for the Dayaks. Sarcastically he wanted all dissenting Dayak voices to disappear from Sarawak and live in Penang or West Malaysia so that he can manipulate the minds of the rural Dayaks for his own maximum benefits.

  11. THE FOLLOWING IS A GOOD SUMMARY OF THE DISASTER THAT HAS HIT SARAWAK FOR 48 YEARS

(Reposted from Dayakbaru.com- comments on an article “The Plights of Kapit”)

“Cikgu Iban on December 21st, 2011 7:03 am

The Iban in Kapit have determined and decided their own fate to be in this situation whereby:-

1.the cost of living is the highest in Sarawak,

2.poor infrastructure is the order of the day,

3.rural urban migration amongst the Iban is at best,

4.productivity of the government servants ever dearly loved by the BN government is questionable,

5.deceit and cheat through unfair government policies are commonly felt by the Ibans,

6.natural resources have been raped to enrich the cronies of CM Taib,

7.government ministers can only make sweet promises to fish for Iban votes

AND sadly the Ibans still prefer to keep it that way even after 48 years have gone.

Many would not want to let it be that way. Therefore your votes are crucial in making a change for the better future.

    Very pathetic!”

    -end of item-

It could be added that all this happened under a neo-colonial government which was created under the Malaysia Plan with sweet nothing promises to “eradicate poverty” and bring “development and prosperity” to the masses. These were the words of the self-proclaimed Bapa Malaysia Tunku Abdul Rahman.

He also put down in writing to Dato Donald Stephens that Malaya would never colonize Sabah and Sarawak to allay such fears at the time.

Looks like the fears are very real…

Voting to change the gomen is well and good but we are getting just another Malayan government to replace UMNO (not at State level because Taib will still be in power). A newly elected Pakatan gomen will implement the policy of closer “integration” of Sabah and Sarawak as part of Malaya.

Do we want that? Isn’t it as breach of the Malaysia Agreement?

We need to get rid of the UMNO gomen but are we to get something not any different?

    • Gaddafi was not such a bad dictator but Malaysia dictators pale by comparison:

*The Amazing Things Moammar Gadhafi Did For Libya*
      By Dick Eastman 10-22-11

Moammar Gadhafi, the former leader of Libya, was executed after being captured alive near his hometown of Sirte. Video footage shows a bloodied Qaddafi pleading for his life before asking the fighters who captured him, “Do you know what’s right or wrong?”

Press reports indicate that he was targeted by French and U.S. aircraft and drones shortly before being captured. Why was Gadhafi summarily executed? Who wanted him dead before he could be put on trial? What does this say about NATO and the people who will take control of Libya?
      –Christopher Bollyn

      1. There is no electricity bill in Libya; electricity is free for all its citizens.
      2. There is no interest on loans, banks in Libya are state-owned and loans given to all its citizens at 0% interest by law.
      3. Home considered a human right in Libya Gaddafi vowed that his parents would not get a house until everyone in Libya had a home. Gaddafi’s father has died while him, his wife and his mother are still living in a tent.

      4. All newlyweds in Libya receive $60,000 Dinar (US$50,000) by the government to buy their first apartment so to help start up the family.
      5. Education and medical treatments are free in Libya. Before Gaddafi only 25% of Libyans are literate. Today the figure is 83%.
      6. Should Libyans want to take up farming career, they would receive farming land, a farming house, equipments, seeds and livestock to kick-start their farms all for free.

      7. If Libyans cannot find the education or medical facilities they need in Libya, the government funds them to go abroad for it not only free but they get US$2,300/mth accommodation and car allowance.

      8. In Libyan, if a Libyan buys a car, the government subsidized 50% of the price.
      9. The price of petrol in Libya is $0.14 per liter.
      10. Libya has no external debt and its reserves amount to $150 billion now frozen globally.

Great Man-Made River project in Libya $27 billion.

      11. If a Libyan is unable to get employment after graduation the state would pay the average salary of the profession as if he or she is employed until employment is found.

      12. A portion of Libyan oil sale is, credited directly to the bank accounts of all Libyan citizens.
      13. A mother who gave birth to a child receive US$5,000
      14. 40 loaves of bread in Libya costs $ 0.15
      15. 25% of Libyans have a university degree
      16. Gaddafi carried out the world’s largest irrigation project, known as the Great Man-Made River project, to make water readily available throughout the desert country.

Which other dictator has done so much good for his people?

THE BRUTAL MURDER of Muammar Gaddafi by Zionist-owned Libyan insurgents is an example of what happens to political leaders who defy international Jewish bankers.

Gaddafi refused to do the bidding of the Rothschild-centered global banking cartel in 5 areas:

      · A Gaddafi-Centered African Union With A Common Currency
      · A Gaddafi-Run Central Bank Of Libya
      · A Gaddafi-Holding Of 150 Tons Of Gold

        Libya latest news: Chaos.

No wonder the media is silent in that clique of nations which perpetrated the latest round of war crimes in attacking Libya, violating the UN Charter, violating the UNSC Resolutions, violating the Geneva Conventions, because the news we are receiving from the ground is shocking. Here are some front-line reports from credible sources inside Libya… just what has NATO done?

How many of your tax-payers’ dollars are being squandered on Libya? Well, quite a few it would seem. No wonder there is no money for your son’s education, Mrs. Brown; no wonder the maternity wing has been closed, Sharon; no wonder Mr. Price has just been told his mother’s cancer treatment will have to be suspended because “there simply isn’t the money” and anyway “do you know how much she is costing the system”?

Interesting, because NATO has stirred up a hornet’s nest in Libya. The picture we get from reading front-line reports is one of utter chaos, with the so-called “NTC” now fighting among itself in a myriad of terrorist factions rather than providing any form of “Government”, which it was always going to be utterly incapable of anyway. How can a bunch of terrorists and thugs, rapists, murderers, torturers, arsonists, looters and thieves constitute a Government?

Yesterday, December 3: reports of mass fights among groups of “rats” (terrorists) in Tripoli city centre and at the Mitiga air base. Misuratah and Benghazi terrorists fought each other and 30 terrorist officers from Benghazi were executed. Baniwalid tribe marching on Tripoli, the population (anti-TNC/NATO terrorist forces) set to welcome them. …………………………………………………..

Sabha, Gharyan, Tarhouna: Green flags everywhere as the Green resistance sterilise vast areas free of NTC/NATO terrorist forces. Green flags over Ghadames, liberated from NTC/NATO terrorist forces by the Green Resistance. Bel Haj terrorist militia fled from Gharyan. In Sabha, a huge caravan of Green Resistance heroes chanted “Oh God Muammar Libia Bess”. NATO knows that the people pf Libya do not accept their criminal terrorist forces as “Government”.

TNC/NATO terrorist forces attacked Tobruk and were driven back by citizens’ Jamahiriya militia and Green Resistance.

Chief terrorist, the traitor Mustafa Abdul Jalil, warns of civil war. It is already civil war and was from day one when this murderer allowed NATO to launch terrorist attacks using foreign forces from Qatar inside Libya.

What did NATO expect? The Libyan people had peace and prosperity for 42 years. The Jamahiriya system of government is participative democracy, far more participative than western-style Parliamentary systems where for instance someone like Cameron can be Prime Minister with a minority of the votes. In the Jamahiriya system communities organise what they need and the Government distributes what they want.

Libyans have enjoyed prosperity, free housing and utilities. They will not give up these birthrights, certainly not to foreigners and foreign-imposed terrorists who have raped Libya’s women, who have perpetrated racist attacks, who have beheaded people in the street, who have tortured children, who have invaded private property, who have committed sodomy, arson, robbery…

These are criminals and in supporting these torturers and terrorists, NATO is liable for war crimes, along with its political and military leaders.

NATO will have to pay a massive reconstruction bill, will have to pay compensation to Libya and Libyans affected by this lunacy and NATO’s terrorist forces will have to be tried and punished. Otherwise, get ready for more of the same.

Libya is totally out of NATO’s control and the British and American taxpayer, mainly, is paying for it. Who else could it be? So sorry Mrs. Smith, if you cannot afford to pay your electricity bill this winter, you will have to freeze to death. Look at it this way: Think of how much money you will save the National Health Service if you do… then we can afford another cruise missile to strafe water supplies in Libya and deprive babies of sanitation “to break their backs”, eh what? Talk about an ethical foreign policy…

  13. DISASTER RELIEF COMMITTEE IS DISASTER IN ITSELF!

    HAHAHA

“I feel that the disaster and relief management committee is led by a wrong person,” he said, adding that he himself was in the dark as to what is happening with flood victims outside of Kuching”

Looks like our Jabu just jabut somewhere every time there is a disaster and hide somewhere to “relief” himself. How MALU lah!

It is this typical of the “elected representatives” to sell themselves high and give minimum in return to the people. If they can’t do their job they should resign.

Similarly the “minister of transport” has become minister of excuses for the transport system. Malaya has beautiful roads and highways built with our petroleum money and we get 3rd roads and a half baked Borneo Highway.

I am sorry for my countrymen in the ulu who suffer from disasters and lack of development which they should have received after 48 years of contributing petroleum earnings and taxes to the so-called “federal gomen”.

We need not be in such a situation since we had plentiful oil and timber in 1963. The money made from all these resources in the last 48 years would have more than enough to “develop” Sarawak and also Sabah many times over. This was suppose to be the promises and fruits of “independence”.

How is it that from a rich country we are reduced to be a poor colony?

Worst of all many of us cannot see what is staring them in the face- that our country has been re-colonized and plundered by a gang of very organized criminals – foreign Malaya and local.

The only way we can ever make real progress is to get rid of these parasites and their “Malaysia” structure for good and start to re-construct our country and repair all the social economic political and environmental damage they have done to us .

  14. Very sorry and sad for S’wak people being led by Jabu proved to be very unproductive. Jabu knows how to say and promise things alike he did say one day in the past his ministry will open 28 new agriculture training centres all over the state. Where are these centres? One can recal when Satok suspension bridge collapsed, Taib task Jabu and Abg Johari to raise RM1 million to rebuild. Well, all kuchingites see with their own eyes what hv happen to Satok suspension bridge? Now Jabu numpang is seen very unproductive S’wak leader. See what hv happen to Rumah Dayak? Lately may Iban longhouses in his Betong/Layar areas are gutted by fire. What hv Jabu done. The rakyat in Betong/Layar know the anwers. Let us S’wakian voted out UMNO/BN during this PRU13 and then followed by voting out Taib n all his cronies in S’wak BN. Bravo YB SCH.
