DAP not quitting Pakatan, says source

Filed under: Politics — Hornbill Unleashed @ 8:00 AM

The DAP central executive committee (CEC) on Monday night decided that the party will not quit Pakatan Rakyat, a source says.

This is despite DAP earlier accusing its partner PAS for reneging on a promise not to table a bill on hudud without Pakatan consensus.

“Tonight’s decision was unanimous and did not go through a vote,” a CEC member said when met after the closed door meeting at the DAP headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

The member who declined to be named said DAP will observe the situation for an unstipulated period of time before reviewing the matter.

Met after the meeting, DAP organising secretary Anthony Loke declined to reveal the outcome but said it is “positive”.

“It is positive for the rakyat and disappointing to Umno and BN,” he told reporters.

He said a DAP will release a press statement later.

Pua: Some wanted to break away

DAP national publicity secretary Tony Pua confirmed that the meeting was focused on DAP’s position in Pakatan.

“Tonight’s discussion was intense and all sorts of options were being considered.

“They (the CEC members) were very open. Everyone knows the issues involved – do we break (away from Pakatan), do we hang on, what the issues (are), how (it will) effect DAP and Pakatan.

“There are people who want us to break immediately, there are people who say we should stay together,” he said.

All eyes are on Pakatan to see if the young coalition is heading for a break up after the Kelantan government tabled the Kelantan Syariah Code II 1993 (Amendment 2015).

The PAS-led Kelantan did so despite objections from DAP and PKR.

On Monday, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was acting like Umno’s “trojan horse” and provoking a Pakatan break up.

Lim said Hadi’s outcry that DAP did not consult Pakatan on local government elections two years ago is untrue and an after-thought to justify PAS unilaterally pushing for hudud.

  2. Hadi Awang, Haron Din and Ali Hassan are trojan horses planted by UMNO Baru to break up Pakatan with Hudud as a political weapon. Hadi’s concern about the afterlife when insisting on Hudud was a blatant lie. Like UMNO Baru Muslims , Hadi finally exposed himself to all Malaysians and Muslims in particular that his own self interest and rice bowl are bigger than his party and above all Malaysians.

    • If PAS joins BN, all BN components in East Malaysia will say sayonara to Najib and BN. PAS Sarawak is totally and completely irrelevant anyway. PAS will lose all their deposits if it is contesting in Sarawak on its own. No need for DAP Sarawak to quit Pakatan unless Chong Chieng Jen has a personal agenda .
