Pakatan Rakyat condemned the latest move to instil fear of the threat of Christianisation in the country, blaming it as tactic by Umno to “frighten” the Muslim Malay majority.

“I want to state, the all mighty in Malaysia is Umno – Umno is in charge of religion, Umno is in charge of the finances – so if the allegations (of attempt to spread Christianity) is true, that means it is Umno that failed to strengthened the faith of the Muslims,” said opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.

“What I can confirm is that this is nothing other than a disgusting political manoeuvre to use religion to frighten the people,” Anwar said.

Speaking at a press conference at Parliament today, Anwar pointed out that if a movement exists to threaten the faith of the Muslims, then there are adequate legal measures that can be taken for transgressing the law.

NONEHe was responding to a letter on a seminar organised by the Johor Education Department the coming Saturday titled ‘Pemantapan Aqidah, Bahaya Liberalisme dan Pluralism Serta Ancaman Kristianisasi Terhadap Umat Islam. Apa Peranan Guru?’ (Strengthening Faith, Dangers of Liberalism and Pluralism and the threat of Christianity towards Muslims. What is the Role of Teachers?).

The letter addressed to primary and secondary schools heads in the Johor Baru district, required two religious teachers from 55 schools in the district to attend the seminar.

Drawing similarities to past claims of proselytisation of Muslims, Anwar said that the relevant authorities have failed to furnish evidence.

Last year, the Selangor Islamic Department gatecrashed an event organised by Harapan Komuniti at the Damansara Utama Methodist Church’s (DUMC) Dream Centre based on a tip-off alleging proselytisation among attendees.

Jais found 12 Muslims among the crowd but the organiser had denied any allegations of trying to proselytise Muslims, stressing that it was a fundraising dinner for the HIV support group.

Prior to that a controversy broke after several DAP leaders were accused of hatching a plot with pastors to establish Christianity as the country’s official religion.

Not proper to ‘politicise religion’

PAS vice-president Husam Musa, who was also at the leadership council meeting, reminded the government that it is not proper to “politicise religion”.

“If we are truly concerned, we would provide more for missionary work, heighten awareness and correct faith. We would stop corruption and mismanagement,” said Anwar, adding that such seminars would only create tension between faiths.

“We will advise Muslims in the country to be wary on this issue. As Pakatan (and) as Muslims (we) will continue to adhere to Islamic principles (and) maintain excellent rapport and working relationship,” he said.

DAP’s parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang said the seminar is at odds with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s call for “moderates of the world to unite against extremists”.

“This is creating suspicion and distrust among the religions. The Christian leaders have called for proof because they made it clear about their sensitivities and the need to maintain religious harmony,” said Lim.

Such programmes will only “lead to greater racial polarisation”, he said, urging for quick measures to be taken to resolve the issue

  1. Malaysians from Sabah and Sarawak who are working and living in West Malaysia can tip the political balance and get rid of UMNO hagemony. by voting there. Sabahans and Sarawakians can be Pakatan’s political rangers to defeat an UMNO dominated BN in West Malaysia.

With greater political awareness, Dayaks, Kadazan, Dusun and Murut can help Malaysia achieve a new milestone in heralding the dawn of a two party system.

Together , lets kick out UMNO dominated BN and save our nation from going bankrupt.

  2. It is simply one of the numerous cunning evilish tactics of the BN-Elites to divert attention away from the real everyday national threats of corruptions, cronyism, nepotism and easy no-sweat commissions.Instead of walking the talk of 1Malaysia,we have exclusive BN-putraism.

  3. Umno failed to realise that malays are not afraid of Christianity.

Malays prefer to be scared by pontianak, zombi, kum kum, pocong, toyol … as shown by the box-office in the cinemas. Finas can confirm this.

  4. UMNO is digging its own grave. The more they alienate the Christian voters in Sabah and Sarawak, the less likely that the BN is going to form the federal government come GE13. To date the Christians have been very understanding and tolerant in the face of these lies, slander and provocation but once the Churches decide to take a political stand and encourage the Christians to vote against an evil and oppressive regime, UMNO will be dead. All it takes is for the priests and pastors to go to the ground and tell the Christians that the Almighty has decided to wage war on UMNO, and that will be the end of Najib and gang.

  5. The Christian Threat Seminar to be held in Johor is clearly the propaganda of UMNO through Ali Hassan, with the ultimate goal of sowing hatred, distrust and to ignite UMNO inflammatory battle cry that a vote for Pakatan Rakyat is a vote for Christian Proselytism. Although such dirty and unhealthy trend is emerging in West Malaysia and an instigation by UMNO against Pakatan, the Christian community in Sarawak and Sabah are not amused and would not sit back but shall warn UMNO for trying to plant the seed of religious hatred and and causing disharmony in its attempt to fish for vote from the Malays and Muslims to stay in power at all cost.

UMNO must be defeated in its stronghold in Johor. Dayaks working and living in Johor, who will not have the time and money to go back to Sarawak to vote must register themselves as voters in Johor to vote out this rotten and corrupted regime.

    • Jabu cakap “ketua menteri yang dikasihi”…bukan Jesus Kristus yang dikasihi. Masing will say..Jangan Lawan Taukey Taib…dia biarkan rakyat jadi kuli, dan biarkan orang asing bekerja di sarawak. Mong will say Yang kurang upaya tak payah ditolong, kita tolong diri sendiri supaya sentiasa menjadi taukey.

      • Frankly…… i would have said that all this ” minister are just by name or by birth are christian. But by faith, they have no GOD or believed. They are only answerable to their master that feed them. They are only interested in fame, glory and fortune”. That how and what the SATAN want them to be, total SUMMITTION to the DEVIL LUST. But than, by Faith, we must pray for their soul so that they will receive CHRIST JESUS AS THEIR PERSONAL LORD AND SAVIOUR.We have to pray for them so that they will be able to repent before their moment of call by the angle of death.

  7. This new political landscape of using religion to threaten the muslim is very much unwanted. UMNO/BN is desperate! The public sectors alike Education Department shouldn’t have been involved in such a seminar. This is clearly against the General Orders (GO). This is truely politicising the religion. STOP! STOP! Every Malaysian must be culturized to live harmoniously in the Almighty’s Brotherhoodship. So plz reject this UMNO/BN/PBB in this coming PRU13 to save Malaysia.
