The Malaysian government hacked into websites that carried reports on the book ‘Money Logging: On the Trail of the Asian Timber Mafia’ by Lukas Straumann, the Bruno Manser Fund (BMF) claims.

The book alleges corrupt practices on the part of former Sarawak chief minister and current Governor Abdul Taib Mahmud and his family in relation to the state’s timber industry.

A BMF statement issued yesterday says the US-based Environment News Service (ENS) reported that its websites were attacked for a report it carried on the book.

“Immediately following your press release announcing the book was transmitted, the ENS and World-Wire servers were severely attacked. Our security team traced the routing back to the Malaysian government. They managed to shut our servers down for about for two hours,” the statement said.

Straumann, who authored the book and is executive director of BMF, said the site attack is shocking as it is illegal.

“I am shocked to learn that the Malaysian government is resorting to illegal methods to prevent the truth on Taib Mahmud and his regime in Sarawak from spreading.

“We demand an explanation from the Malaysian government and a guarantee that Malaysian officials will not undertake any further steps to prevent the book from being internationally released and duly reported on,” Straumann said.

The Taib family has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and Taib’s lawyer has acted to block the book from being sold.

  1. Hacking into websites……the government must be ultra desperate to cover up an open can of worms and maggots.

  2. To manage to stand outside the palace of Taib Mahmud and take a great photo with the book about the once most corrupted thief minister and one of the richest man in the world is beyond anybody’s imagination. Well done.

Taib Mahmud must be areested and investigated for gross power abuse when he was the most corrupted thief minister in Sarawak for 23 years. Sarawakians must stop him from alienating more prime lands belonging to the State to his family members through cronies. After giving away a 269 acres of prime state land at BDC to his son’s company Mornada Sdn Bhd, Taib Mahmud , had through the State Secretary signed away another 266.8 acres opposite MJC Batu Kawa to another crony, Barry Tan , who is the proxy for Taib Mahmud’s wife Regad Kurdi in Standard Parade Sdn Bud and Ibraco Pelita Sdn Bhd.

As a governor with full power over his hand picked CM Adenan Satem, Taib Mahmud is also eyeing the old Brooke Dockyard facility, the Open Air Market, Cat Museum and the polyclinic next to Sikh temple in Kuching to be developed by his fladship companies. His family is the owner of Merdeka Plaza and the hotel under construction.

This power crazy and greedy old man who also owned about 400 companies in Malaysia and abroad must be arrested and investigated and all his global assets frozen and return to Sarawak.

  3. One day, Pehmo meets Mubarak in Hell.

“Yo, Pehmo, Straumann writes that you have accumulated at least RM$3.9 billion. How did you do that, mate?”

“Nothing strange really. First of all, I’m clever and untouchable. Laila is also clever. Even though she is an unemployed housewife, she’s one of the richest women in the world (even now she is long gone!).”

“Ah, I see.” Says Mubarak, full of admiration.

“Laila and I have good genes and all our children are all very clever and intelligent. Mind you, our Suleyman bought his multi-storey, multi-million building in US when he was only 23 and a student!! (Mubarak can only see Pehmo’s teeth but not his eyes, when he says this).”

“That’s why they are rich. Not like those drunk and stupid orang asal from Sarawak, you know who I mean. Even my cousin Norlia openly said so on a popular video co-starring lawyer Alvin. You know what? Not a single orang asal makes a noise! Real stupid!!”

“Wow, you’re good!”, exclaims Mubarak with a wide-mouth.

“The best part of the thing is even though I pusing pusing them for more than 40 years, they still worship me and support me. They supported me to be the Chief Minister for many, many year and now, they supported me to be the Governor of Sarawak!”

“Yo, Mubarak, before I forget, they recently elected me to be the Chancellor of UNIMAS. They know that I have much to teach them. I shall of course do my very best to teach and impart the students of UNIMAS, the patented Pehmo’s Art and Craft of Getting Rich!!!”

  4. Attacking the website means they are scared that the truths will be known by the Malaysian Public. If it is true that the govt attacked the website then it is really sad and a shame for them to resort to such desperate measures to protect a guilty man. He should be exposed as what he truly is. The Dayaks are the poorest in the country because of him and the govt should not protect such a person who deliberately ignored the plight of the Dayaks so that he could enrich his own families and the few Chinese who supported him politically with their money gained by destroying the forest and displaced the dayaks in the process. He is indeed an evil man!

    • Tun Abdul Taib is the richest, smartest and best politician in Malaysia even today when he retires.

      • He might be smart, but as a politician to enrich himself is criminal. Instead of serving the people, which being a representative of the people (as CM or minister) is all about in whatever system of government, Taib has squandered the nation’s resources and destroyed the country’s environment. He should be prosecuted. If Adenan Satem cannot do it, the people of Sarawak should bring the Opposition in the next State election.
