Ex-wife: CM’s son Bekir was unfaithful to me

Shahnaz A Majid has claimed in the Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court that her former husband and corporate player Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib had been unfaithful to her.

She said Mahmud Abu Bekir, a son of Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud, had taken an Australian woman to his sister’s wedding in 2000.

Testifying in her RM100 million claim for mutaah (matrimonial gift), Shahnaz described how she had also felt humiliated when Mahmud Abu Bekir told The Peak magazine some time in 2010 that he was married to a Russian, Elena Vasilenko. (more…)

Bekir has RM9mil in cash, unit trust, court told

Sarawak chief minister’s son Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib holds over nine million ringgit in cash and unit trust accounts, the Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court was told today.

The amount includes RM4.4 million in a CIMB current account, RM3 million in a fixed deposit with the same bank, and RM1.3 million in his EPF and over RM500,000 in ASN and ASB unit trust accounts.

Making the revelations before Syariah High Court Judge Mohamad Abdullah were witnesses called by the plaintiff, Bekir’s ex-wife Shahnaz Abdul Majid, who is suing him for her share of income earned during their marriage. (more…)

Bekir now faces RM121mil child support claim

Shahnaz A Majid has filed another RM121 million claim against her former husband Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, the son of Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud.

The case will come up in the Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court on Jan 10.

Shahnaz (right) filed her claim in the Kuala Lumpur Syariah High Court on Nov 30, following Abu Bekir’s alleged failure to pay maintenance for their 18-year-old son, Raden Murya Abdul Taib Mahmud, since their divorce.

The couple was married on Jan 9, 1992, and divorced on May 11 last year. (more…)

Sarawak CM’s son wants bar on reporting of assets

Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar (left), who is representing Mahmud along with Saadiah Din, said he had received instructions that the evidence on the total amount of money spent and the total value of his assets not be revealed.Lawyers representing Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib, the son of the Sarawak chief minister, have today applied at the Syariah High Court to bar reporters covering his divorce case from reporting the figures of his expenditures and also his assets which were revealed in court today.

“We are concerned over the safety of the plaintiff’s (Shahnaz A Majid) family with whom they shared a son and that of his own family. We noticed that there are reporters in the public gallery reporting on these issues and we apply that this is not revealed but only the total amount,” said Zainul Rijal. (more…)

‘Bekir spent RM780,000 in 6 months, using charge card’

Sarawak chief minister’s son Mahmud Abu Bekir Taib spent slightly more than three-quarters of a million ringgit in the first six months of this year using a charge card, the Syariah High Court was told today.

Like an episode from the TV series ‘Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous’, the itemised billings from Bekir’s American Express platinum charge card revealed spending at high-end stores such as Harrods, Suffrages and the Ferrari store in London, besides trips to Dusseldorf in Germany, Barcelona in Spain and to France.

The statements from January to June this year on the American Express platinum charge card issued by Maybank showed RM782,520.55 in expenditure, were tendered to the court for identification. (more…)
